Every suffix matters
How to make a component reference unambiguous.
Keep the full identifier
Copy the manufacturer part number without dropping suffixes, separators or packaging codes. Keep the original cell as text in Excel so leading zeroes are not removed. Add the manufacturer in a separate column.
Use the source document
Attach the relevant datasheet or drawing and state its revision when available. A photograph of the marking can help clarify a reference, but should not replace the complete ordering code.
Separate alternatives
Put the requested part and proposed alternatives on separate lines. State which substitutions your engineering team has approved and which still need review.
